Good morning my friends! And what a great morning it is...I've had a nice LOW IMPACT workout along with some physical therapy I'm continuing in my recovery from my car accident and am feeling pretty darn good. Before I go off to enjoy this gorgeous, sunny day with my son on his playdate with my friend/client...let me answer a blog question sent to me which is: How easily can your weight loss be sabotaged?
Well, first let me tell you friends it's actually quite simple if you MOVE...you can LOSE. One of my favorite sayings that my clients and bootcampers often hear is "BURNING is EARNING!" Okay, okay enough with the Famishaisms...
As I've said before, there is 3500 calories in ONE pound of fat. So if you eat and eat and eat food all day that equates to more than 3500 calories, you will see the scale go up. If you eat a lot of calories for the day but still burn the same amount you consumed in calories...you MAINTAIN your weight.
Here's the deal, sitting at your computer right now reading this blog you are GASP! burning calories! Now it isn't a ton of calories but it's SOMETHING. You burn calories at "rest" all the time...when you sleep, if you're watching tv, talking on the phone, reading a book or doing work on the computer. But what you want to focus on is MOVEMENT. If you move just 30 minutes a day, you're doing something great for your heart health and your mind.
If you truly want to keep the weight that you worked so hard to lose off, then you need to incorporate weight resistance training (your body burns more at REST after you've done weight training) into your fitness routine at least 2 to 3 times a week. If you don't have access to a gym, that's ok! Watch my "Fitness is Fun with your Kids!" videos and I will give you suggestions on what to use in place of weights.
Remember something important...it takes a LONG TIME to gain alot of weight, so know that when you start to finally lose the weight, it's a MARATHON not a SPRINT. However, once you reach your fitness goal keep up the routine of doing something healthy for your mind and body everyday. Going for a walk, playing with your kid(s), singing one of your favorite songs, dancing around your living room, going for a light jog, taking a bootcamp class, riding your bike, etc, etc..
So to sum it all up, keeping your weight loss off should NOT be a chore. Remember, fitness is a way of life! It's a LIFESTYLE. So as long as you make sure you are moving each and everyday then you should be able to ENJOY things in life AND continue to keep your weight OFF!
Today's fitness video shows me instructing my son Pry'nce through various exercises that you can do. When you watch it, be sure to do at least 3 sets of each exercise he demonstrates. Enjoy the video!

THANK YOU so much for this blog! I have had an "off" week and was beating myself up quite a bit about it. After reading this I don't feel quite as guilty and now I'm ready to get back to the gym. I still hear you in my head saying "hard work is what it takes" on a regular basis. But, I also remember you saying something like "we all need to take a break sometimes so take it if you need it, just don't overdue it". I got burned out a little and so I haven't been to the gym in a week. The thing I love the most about your advice and blogs is that you ALWAYS keep it real with us. Thanks a lot for helping to get me back on track.
ReplyDeleteOooops, meant to type overdo, not overdue!
