WHY SHOULD I EXERCISE???

Hi friends!  Wshing everyone a fabulous day as always.  I have once again completed a FUN workout and am getting ready to face the world (WINDY world...in AZ winds are blowing crazy hard today)with my son Pry'nce.  Before I do that, I decided to do my usual blog...but keep it SHORT and SWEET today.  So here you go!

Okay, I know some of you see my title of today's blog and you think "duh!  We know WHY we should exercise Famisha!  Tell us something we don't know!"  But you know what, I know plenty of people who tell me..."I hate to sweat and my genetics will NEVER give me a flat stomach...so I'm just going to go get lipo."  Really?!  First, let me say as a Personal Trainer for many years now I have heard this from HUNDREDS...yes, I said hundreds of clients.  Guess what?!  You are NOT a prisoner of your genes!

Everyone has an area on their body that seems to just LOVE to store fat.  On most women, it's usually the hips, thighs, and stomach.  On most men, it's the mid-section.  Now, you must know that there is no such thing as "spot reducing," however, you can still do exercises that target that area COMBINED with a healthy eating plan.  So one of your main reasons to EXERCISE is it will #1 make you feel great MENTALLY once you're finished because you realize that you just did something positive for your health and fitness.  I always tell my clients who are starting with me for the first time, it's a MARATHON not a SPRINT...so don't expect to have Madonna arms after ONE workout.  But after your first 3 weeks of working out, you should definitely feel a difference MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY!

So why else should you exercise?!  Well, it will help you maintain a strong and healthy heart and increase your self-esteem and confidence.  I love seeing clients start to walk alittle bit TALLER as they start to lose inches, drop body fat and reach that weight that makes them smile.

Friends...do yourself a FAVOR.  Exercise TODAY!  Go for a walk today around your office building during your lunch break, put on one of your favorite cds or turn on your ipod and DANCE around the house as you vacuum today, crab walk around the house with your kid(s), do calf raises while sitting at your desk working on your computer, squat up and down while you brush your teeth and add side bends as well.  JUST MOVE!!!

Exercise can be ANYTHING as long as you're moving...and remember, if your "burning...you're earning!" :-)  Feel free to share on today's blog what you do today for your health and fitness.  I would love to hear!  Today, I am going to re-post the video I put on last week's blog of my 5 year old son working out in our home gym.  If you're stuck indoors today, try these exercises he demonstrates...they're fun!!

HOW EASILY CAN YOUR WEIGHT LOSS BE SABOTAGED???

Good morning my friends!  And what a great morning it is...I've had a nice LOW IMPACT workout along with some physical therapy I'm continuing in my recovery from my car accident and am feeling pretty darn good.  Before I go off to enjoy this gorgeous, sunny day with my son on his playdate with my friend/client...let me answer a blog question sent to me which is:  How easily can your weight loss be sabotaged?

Well, first let me tell you friends it's actually quite simple if you MOVE...you can LOSE.  One of my favorite sayings that my clients and bootcampers often hear is "BURNING is EARNING!"  Okay, okay enough with the Famishaisms...

As I've said before, there is 3500 calories in ONE pound of fat.  So if you eat and eat and eat food all day that equates to more than 3500 calories, you will see the scale go up.  If you eat a lot of calories for the day but still burn the same amount you consumed in calories...you MAINTAIN your weight.

Here's the deal, sitting at your computer right now reading this blog you are GASP! burning calories!  Now it isn't a ton of calories but it's SOMETHING.  You burn calories at "rest" all the time...when you sleep, if you're watching tv, talking on the phone, reading a book or doing work on the computer.  But what you want to focus on is MOVEMENT.  If you move just 30 minutes a day, you're doing something great for your heart health and your mind.

If you truly want to keep the weight that you worked so hard to lose off, then you need to incorporate weight resistance training (your body burns more at REST after you've done weight training) into your fitness routine at least 2 to 3 times a week.  If you don't have access to a gym, that's ok!  Watch my "Fitness is Fun with your Kids!" videos and I will give you suggestions on what to use in place of weights.

Remember something important...it takes a LONG TIME to gain alot of weight, so know that when you start to finally lose the weight, it's a MARATHON not a SPRINT.  However, once you reach your fitness goal keep up the routine of doing something healthy for your mind and body everyday.  Going for a walk, playing with your kid(s), singing one of your favorite songs, dancing around your living room, going for a light jog, taking a bootcamp class, riding your bike, etc, etc..

So to sum it all up, keeping your weight loss off should NOT be a chore.  Remember, fitness is a way of life!  It's a LIFESTYLE.  So as long as you make sure you are moving each and everyday then you should be able to ENJOY things in life AND continue to keep your weight OFF!

Today's fitness video shows me instructing my son Pry'nce through various exercises that you can do.  When you watch it, be sure to do at least 3 sets of each exercise he demonstrates.  Enjoy the video!
